First Aquathon for St Lucia Triathlon Association

The St. Lucia Triathlon Association had its first Aquathon at Reduit Beach this past Sunday 28th, August. With an early 8 a.m. start, 12 participants showed up with friends and family to support them and enjoy a lovely morning on the beach. The Aquathon comprised of a 500 Metre run, followed by a 500 Metre Swim, and a second 500 Metre Run to end the race. Winning the Under 18 category was Jr. Sportsman of the Year Runako Daniel in a time of 14:15 sec. Second was Felix Meixner and third was Runako’s younger brother Jyasi Daniel, both respectfully past and present successful national swimmers. The adult category was won by Monique Devaux-Lovell who completed the course in 19:12 sec., and who is currently training to participate in the Olympic Distance Category at the Inaugural BMW St. Lucia International Triathlon to be staged right here in St. Lucia in 2012, certainly a testament to her training and the importance of training to be able to compete in a triathlon.
President David Peterkin was pleased with the turn out and commented that if the event had not clashed with the Pine Hill Fun Walk, more participation would have been likely. However, he stated that; “This is the beginning of good things to come and we look forward to the continuous effort to help grow the sport on island.”
Special thanks to the efforts of executive members Dagmar Peterkin and Cathy Capomolla for managing all registration and official duties.
